AFC List Fwd: Summer Nationals Update and Club Break Info

Hello All,



The Mosses asked me to send out an update about our Summer Nationals
Fundraising and thank everyone who participated.



First, a big, big thanks to Mark Killpack who donated the airline tickets
for the coaches.  This took a big chunk from the amount of money we needed
to raise in order to pay for the coaches travel expenses.  So when you see
Mark, be sure to thank him.



Next, we raised $980 with both the car wash and the yard sale.  The Hipples
did a great job on the car wash, raising $377!!!  Thanks to everyone who
participated in both the fundraisers.  The proceeds from these fundraisers
will go toward the coaches food for the tournament and providing each coach
with a MARTA card so they will have transportation for the time they are in
Atlanta.



Finally, the remaining balance for the hotel rooms.  We need each fencer to
pay $60.00 toward the coaches rooms.  Considering the time they will be
spending in Atlanta and the other expenses we were able to defer, this isn't
too bad a ding.  Please give your coaching expense fee directly to the
Mosses.



If you haven't already given either Phyllis or myself the coaching fee for
Summer Nationals, please bring it to the club by Monday at 5:00.  We'd like
to take care of this before they go, so they can concentrate on coaching and
not have to worry about bookkeeping issues.  You can drop it off this
weekend during the tournament (put it in an envelope marked Summer Nationals
and inside, please indicate the events you are paying for and leave the
envelope in the office).

The club will close for summer break on Monday.  If you need to pick up your
bag, please do so no later than Monday at 8:00 p.m.  You can get into the
club this weekend all weekend during the State Championships.



The club will reopen August 1st for anyone who wants to open fence.
Classes and lessons will resume on August 14th.



We have a number of exciting things in the works for the fall - Fall Season
Members Meeting on Friday, August 25th  at 7:00 p.m., our second Luau with
Sam Choy (date to be determined), and our second annual Fence-a-Thon (great
for fencers at all levels).  Watch your email for more information on these
events and more around the first of August.



This year, we are sending 1/3 of our members to Summer Nationals.  Of the 58
fencers going to Summer Nationals from the Arizona Division 25 of those are
from AFC, almost half the fencers are from our club.  That is quite an
accomplishment for a club that has only been around for three years.  We
could not have accomplished this without our coaches.  In the two short
years they have been at AFC they have established a strong program for our
fencers.   So, thanks to Adrian and Florin for all your hard work this year
and a very successful 2005-2006 season.
