Stay sharp over the holidays
We're checking for AFC members' interest in a holiday
fencing camp during winter break. The camp would last
two to three mornings, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 2
through Jan. 4. The camp would mix workouts and
competition to get everyone in shape for the
winter/spring tournaments leading up to Summer
Nationals. The cost will be determined by the level of
interest.
If you are interested, please respond to this email no
later than Wednesday, Nov. 13. Let me know whether you
prefer two days or three.
The latest tournament....
Congratulations to to all AFC fencers who competed in
the Palm Desert (Calif.) Open Nov. 3-4. Epee: Brian
Wilson, Skyler Russell, James Fowler, Lindsay Young
and Jena Rhea. Foil: Drew Moseley. Saber: Gaiane
Hochard, Andrew Lee, Sarah Martinez, Dania Wright and
Donald Martinez. Special mention to epee fencer
Lindsay Young, who finished third in women's epee to
raise her rating from a "C" to a "B."
The next tournament...
A large contingent of AFC fencers are heading off to
Dallas this weekend Nov. 8-10 for the second North
American Cup tournament of the season. Good luck to
all.
And keep your eye on...
The upcoming Junior Olympics qualifier tournament on
Dec. 15 at Arizona State University. The top finishers
qualify for the Junior Olympics in Charlotte, N.C., in
February. Whether or not you plan to go to JO's, the
tournament brings out the best fencers in Arizona in
each age group. You can test yourself against strong
competition without having to drive out of town. For
all tournaments in Arizona, go to:

Will travel, have coach
Our coaches Florin and Adrian are available to travel
with their fencers to out-of-town tournaments. The
great benefit for the fencers is expert coaching to
deal with the variety of styles a fencer goes up
against during a competition. You will see styles
you've never seen before -- but Florin and Adrian
have. They help their fencers respond, stay focused
and stay positive. If you would like Florin or Adrian
to travel with your fencer to an event, talk to him
and then sign up. Costs for travel are shared by all
the fencers going to an event.
"Act like a wild boy..."
...or girl. Arizona Republic reporter Karina Bland
ranks AFC among 10 places in Arizona where your child
can play with sharp objects, and get away with it.

A friendly reminder....
Please pay your club dues by the 10th of every month.
Checks may be placed in the white mailbox on the wall
next to the main desk. Your club and your coaches
thank you.
